‘Heritage puts us in touch with our culture and history. That’s why it’s important to preserve as much of it as possible. Our cultural heritage plays a vital role in our historical awareness and shared identity. We, too, have a responsibility to preserve this heritage.’
The Dutch Open Air Museum has its own Zaan Square lined with various buildings typical of North Holland’s Zaan district, including a 17th-century merchant’s house, a bakery, a 19th-century coach house and a labourer’s cottage. The square itself can be reached by crossing the drawbridge from Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, dating from 1880-1900. Amsterdam Development’s sponsorship will help to support the development, presentation and preservation of this heritage. Amsterdam Development will also contribute its expertise in aid of new initiatives.
